10 most classic games of all times

This is a BIG review of what (in my opinion) are the greatest games of all time. the list will go include retro, latest, somewhere between and yes! even the games that set the ball rolling!
before i start this though i would like to mention that it was very very hard to make this list and if you feel i missed out a few noteworthy games then please comment and hopefully next time i might use your comments
10.     That's right! it set the ball rolling and gave birth to so many video games that  it deserves to be mentioned. although pong is generally unpopular now a days there are many people from the older generation that should have a few fond memories of the game. it is basically an incredibly simplified version of tennis or air hockey but the addictive concept planted the seed for a HUGE tree of games.

9. ITS-A-HIM-MARIO! yes that's right the guy that put one of the three biggest game company's on the map! This company's creator and marios father Shigeru Myamoto  (who very very recently admitted that if he was to apply for any job in Nintendo he would not be hired!) what company could i possibly be speaking about? NINTENDO! they created one of the all time greatest video game character who has lived since first appearance in donkey kong in 1981. he has been in enough video games to count on both hands and both feet! so he was a must have in this list

8. Tetris! this game is an all time favourite its been so popular its an arcade machine, on the iphone/ipod , various versions are on different phones, on various consoles & its still going on! who knows in 50 years time you will be able to inject it into you and play in virtual reality! when you think of a puzzle game then you think of Tetris its one of the greatest games of all time and deserves to be in this list.

 7. pokemon yellow is the first ever decent hand-held game made by the infamous Shigaru Myamoto it became an anchor for many many more hand-held consoles and pokemon games. i chose pokemon yellow purely because pikachu is the most awesome pokemon to start with.

6 The king of iron fist tournament has....BEGUN! that's right its tekken but its not tekken 1 not tekken 2 not tekken 3 but its the WHOLE SERIES! The tekken series is just so perfect that i really could not choose only 1 of them to join the ranks of the awesome top 10. i had to add this game to the rankings because i have such fond memorys of kicking the S**T out of my brothers on it and the same go's for my next choice...

5...... ITS MORTAL KOMBAT! thats right i went for the whole shabang again and picked 1-Armageddon. the game was so popular they made a couple of half decent movies about it. Armageddon was my favourite but wouldn't of been possible without the others. in Armageddon every single character is in the game as a farewell for the fans since it was the last game of the ever so popular and awesome series.

4. Brick breaker. this game has been all over the internet under many different names but the main and most common is brick breaker. for all you blackberry owners you will know what i mean when i say how incredibly addictive it is. even though I've only gotten to level 9 at my peak i still love the game.

3.Doom. although I've never personally played the game the name has been cropping up in everything from movies to references and from what i gather it is meant to be a violent brutal game.

2.pacman! its incredibly classic and you just gotta love it. Definitly deserves a spot at number 2!

1. The head-honcho itself. the top of the range, the level cap, the most classic classic game there is. thats right the game that didnt end or start it all no it perfected it all! its (enter drum roll)....................................................................SPACE INVADERS! such a classic game yet so brilliant and loved by millions across our little blue planet its on the ipog touch and iphone so if you have £3 then look the brilliance up!

If you didn't know Modern Warfare 2 came out... *SPOILERS*

Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, COD6 or MW2, however you put it, most people (nearly 8 million,) will know what the hell you are babbling your little ruddy mouth on about. It's the most anticipated game of 2009, everyone knows about it. So shut up and listen to my opinions.

If you played Call of Duty 4 before, you will know what is going on in this. The Middle East and Russia went all doo-lally and America and the British tried to help but failed/succeeded. Basically, to sum it up, a nuke went off when the British found the wrong terrorist, and then some bloke called Soap decided to make himself useful by saving the world and shooting a one armed Russian. Modern Warfare 2 helps anyone who has trouble remembering the story with a ten minute slideshow of sorts when you boot up the campaign mode. How handy.

This time around though, you'll find yourself in the boots of Gary "Roach" Sanderson, Allen, and Ramierez. But to be honsest, CoD4 and MW2 have done a rubbish job of actually letting me come close to the actual American playable characters and make me prefer the other bland soldiers around them. America- the country- actually plays a bigger role than the actual characters to be honest. Watching the country crumble in it's time of need and then attempt to rise up against the enemy.

On the other side, you have the super adventures of Captain Soap and Roach happening at the same time. It bloody fantastic to see Soap in the proper action he should be in, instead of on the floor, in a black and white screen with a quote that you had seen for the sixth time. From being held up by a whole army to jumping from roof to roof to a helicopter. It might be becuase I am British myself, that I feel much more of an attatchment to Roach and crew.

Roach never speaks, but it is how the group react towards him, and the little scripted scenes where you'll see him leap for a cliff and just miss or run through the streets of a Brazillian town to get to a helicopter that is waiting for him. Everyone cares for Roach, and you and Roach care for them too. Even the minor character "Ghost" is enjoyable to hear on the radio. "Bloody Yanks, thought they were the good guys?!" But what got me thinking when I heard Ghost and see him in action was, "is that Gaz?" Anyone who played Call of Duty 4 will understand what I mean.

The story is solid, and fits in nicely into the 6 hour campaign. Though that may not sound impressive, once you see what they packed into it, you'll sit back and go, "I want to do that again." Missions are the standard you'd find in any Call of Duty. Whether it be escorting a tank, blowing up something with C4 or defending a point. You'll understand from get go. Even shooting is exactly the same. But, that what is so great; it has already been perfected and can no longer be improved. Which is why Infinity Ward have now jammed in so many "Holy Shit on stick" moments into the campaign. It is like CoD4 on steroids.

*SLIGHT SPOILER START*
That Nuke from the previous title? EMP bitches! Washington almost obliterated. Jets are crashing into the White House, planes falling from the sky, and you are centered right into the middle of it.
*SPOILER ENDS HERE*

I still feel the British sides of the missions are far more enjoyable as they tend vary in style. Sneak or go in guns a blazing. The American missions seem to fit their tastes quite well really. Blow stuff up and clear several rooms while dramatic and patriotic music blares on in the background.

Multiplayer is still as deep as a bottomless hole and hasn't changed much really. The only editions I can see are the added killstreaks, kill streak chooser and deathstreaks. Also the rather unexpectedly good Third Person Mode. I can't say much about it other than it is still as brilliant as it was last time. Grenades still have that "Tick Tick" sound- even of they bounce against mud. Everything is in tact and how you expect it to be.

Killstreaks are far more fleshed out now, but you can choose which ones you would like to enjoy. Supply drops or AC- 130s, helicopters or a nuke that will infact end the game. Even if you are 3 minutes in, it will end, because no one survives a nuke. Not even the never ending army in Multiplayer.

Perks are far better too, with them being able to upgrade to a far superior version being an option. And the added deathstreaks let new players have a chance at getting back at their last killer.

Special Ops is probably the worst and best part of the game's package. I say this because it seems tacked on, but is also a hell of a lot of fun to play. People wanted a new Nazi Zombies- espcially the muppets who think that IW and Treyarch are the same thing- so this was possibly created to compensate for the none co-operative campaign or Nazi Zombie clone. I prefer the Zombies, but this is fun in it's own way. But it also seems very lazy. The missions are just in campaign levels, just with the ally NPCs taken away.

In this mode, you complete various situations such as survive several waves of enemies or... now come to think of it, most of the missions are pretty much the same structure. Survive the enemy onslaught, don't die and shoot as many guys you can. Even the sneaky sniper missions -if you screw up- grabbing an AK-47 and slaughtering the lot of them. It's nice to have, but unless the DLC addons for them turn up soon, I doubt I'll go back after I'm done with them.

Overall the game is a solid package with thrills in the single player, excitement in the multiplayer and mixed feelings in the Spec-Ops. I just can't help but feel that the campagin left a huge hole to be filled by the hopefully Modern Warfare 3. I reccomend this game to anyone who is a fan of FPS games and a fan of multiplayer. This game will keep you going for ages.

On a side note, Makarov -the main villian this time around- and his airport mission has caused a lot of controversy. Apart from the civillian massacre, he has brought up a couple arguments on several websites of whether or not he and the mission actually have an importance. In my eyes it does. Makarov is made out to be this major terrorist that will kill you on sight, and what-not. This cannot be protrayed with simple slideshows as it was with CoD4's Zakheav. Infinity Ward presumably wanted to go out a little further than expected. They wanted to show what Makarov is capable of, and indeed he does. You witness him and his cronies slaughter hundreds of people, and you partake in that. How do you feel now? After it was briefly mentioned to you what Zakhaev did in CoD4, you sort of shrugged it off and let it be, now, you partake in the act, and see what actually goes on. How does that feel now?

"Would You Kindly" Play This Game?

I came late into the Xbox 360 scene. I bought my console towards the end of 2008, and I only picked this up at the weekend just gone. I had heard good things about it, and then I'd heard its just another shooter trying to top the major series in the world at the moment. (Half Life, Halo and the such.) And to put it straight out there, it is up there with the greats. Set in stone.

Lets start with the graphics; like all reviews. The graphics rose the bar for most shooters on the 360. Or so I think so, but then again- this is my opinion. The game is mostly underwater, so the team making this went to a lot of trouble to get that right effect. They didn't fail. Seriously, this water sprays, and does other watery stuff like it would in real life, and looks the part too. It is the Megan Fox of water effects in video games.
The enemies- Big Daddies and Splicers- are superbly rendered from their sketch book like nature. They look amazing in action, and when being attacked, (so thats being set on fire or frozen in place- which may I say looks spectacular.) The Big Daddies look tremendous clunking about Rapture in search of a little companion. They are litterally walking steel, and as with the water, the team have gone out the way to make them look like super villians from a comic book. The lighting and shadow effects, set the atmosphere up for a meanacing adventure. The only issue I had were the occasional pop in graphics or a sort of none textured effect on a fast moving object, (Big Daddies lights) but it didn't detract from the expirence.

The combat has a strategy like feeling to it. Your health doesn't last long in a fire fight, leaving you constantly vulnerable and the areas you fight in are huge, but even with all the cover available, and you might be full of health packs, but the enemies tend to gang up on you and those ammunition stores will end up disappearing, this game is solid. That doesn't mean that the enemies will end up destroying you over and over; oh no.
Lets speak weapons. Best pistol in any game? A magnum? Check. Close range awesome-orific shotguns? Check. Grenades with a ridiculous range? Check. Standard machine guns? Check. But what makes this games combat so great you ask? It sounds so generic I hear you say? Well aside from the solid set of weapons, you have plasmids. These are like mini super powers, which act as the games gimmick. You can choose from Winter Storm to Insect swarm or even hypnotising a Big Daddy for your own accord. That is one thing I'd like to bring up as well. Big Daddies are just epic to fight. Seriously, they go up there with Scarabs, Striders, or even the last boss on Duke 3D! From freezing them to get a few cheap hits in or even towards the end of the game, when you become more and more powerful, taking them on with just some electricity and a wrench. It is clever and witty in an odd way, but sometimes can become repetitive. Plus to add that death in game is never a worry, (unless you have the DLC,) as you spawn in a "Vita Chamber" just down the corridor and everything you have accomplished stays accomplished. Which, if the chamber happens to be further along down the area you need to trek through, the only enemies or hazards left are those that just ended your life. It isn't game breaking but takes away some of the fun in the game.
To add to all the things you have to worry over, such as health and ammo, those plasmids come with their own ammo too! ADAM is the source of all the powers, how you buy more, get upgrades and such, but EVE is what you will pick up to top you up for more burning sprees. I found that through my playthrough of this game, I never ran out EVE hypos, (needles you stick in your arm,) which I guess is good, but became a bit of a piss take after awhile.
Upgrades are all the rage in this game. Although you won't upgrade all the guns in the game, or all your plasmids, its fun to see what you can get on your next run through. I do reccomend upgrading your machine gun kick back, shotgun power, and electricity powers to the max. As well as these upgradables for use in combat, you also get tonics to aid you as well. These are taken for granted after awhile, you might have a tonic which sends off an electric blast when taking physical damage or make your trusty wrench turn people into ice. These too can be expanded upon.

The characterisation of the game and the misleading story line follows Jack, a supposedly normal guy ending up in Rapture after a plane crash. As you enter Rapture its clear that things aren't going right as you notice failing lights, a Lone Big Daddy being electrified and the radio picking up Atlus's orders and peoples cries for help. Upon entering the actual area of play, the game bombards you with two fleshed out characters, Andrew Ryan and Atlus. Ryan has built Rapture, but has become it's demise as well, wanting all the power to himself, and Atlus being the bog standard guy in your ear telling you what to do.
As you progress you meet Tennenbaum and the Little Sisters and how they came to be from her sick twisted expirements. You always know that help is always 2 steps away from you, as Ryan is always 3 steps infront of it.
The story also has a story within it. As well as Jack's adventure going on around you, diaries are picked up from around the city which describe what happened say at a ruined New Years party or in a medical ward. These became the star of the show for me, as the main story was strong, but weakened towards the end. It was as if it were just a big mashup of what they wanted to do, but couldn't to prevent the game from trailing on from it's 15 hours plus time span. It was like someone offering you delicious Pepsi, and then suddenly swapping it from your hand to nasty Coke Zero.

What I found was that, in this game, real people aren't face to face with you for long. The longest probably being Andrew Ryan with his speech. I think there was a fine and dandy reason for this. As well as the obvious it keeps Rapture a mysterious and rather lonely place, the lip syncing was absolutly diabolical. And this is what happens in the Unreal Engine made game, the voice acting can be sublime, but the lips won't match up, and it ruins it. Ryan looked like a poorly dubbed Kung-Fu flick. It made me cringe. I'm glad they realised this and kept people as far aways as possible.

To nitpick a bit more on it, after singing it's grace, the subtitles didn't work well, with speechs still on screen 15 minutes after finishing. The ending became weaker, with the final boss possibly being the easiest things I have ever done while playing a game. Seriously.

The game was fun, it had that nice bulky feel to it and in the end, felt like a good meal on a Sunday afternoon. I praise it for everything it did. Story telling on par with most best selling books, and graphics and combat like you've seen before, but done in such a way. The enemies were different and held a challange, unlike most shooters; run and gun wasn't and option. It was clever and made you think, and puzzles and level gimmicks didn't over stay their welcome. Characters were introduced nicely and slowly with them being fleshed out in diaries with some excellent voice work. I highly reccomend this game. And with the added bonus of the sequal coming out next year, your going to need this to catch up with the story. Let's hope BioShock 2 lives up to it's older brother.

Indie Review - Windosill

Windosill is the latest delightful outing from Vectorpark, a site known for their kooky drawings and amusing flash creations. In this brilliant physics-based puzzler, you control a small car/train like object and have to try and guide it through 10 richly varied levels. In each level you must find a white cube and place it in the door to advance.
Interact with objects around you to find the cube. It is this aspect of the game that makes windosill such a joy. Clicking, pulling and wobbling the various items in the game produces interesting, amusing results.
This is brought to life through Vecotrpark's wonderful animations - strange objects and creatures (especially birds) are brought to life through the art style the devs have used.

Windosill is very enjoyable, however at 10 small levels i think it is far too short. As you have to pay only £1.79 on Steam for this game, it is still worth it, but double the content would have pushed Windosill from very good to excellent. The difficulty level is good, and there are some nice moments when you figure out a puzzle that provide a sense of achievement.

Overall, a short but sweet game.

Batman Arkham Asylum

WOW
really late review but i dont care. i played it the other week and the whole time i was thinking holy shit... this is epic (epic? THIS IS SPARTA!) easily one of the best games of 2009.
i loved it. i played the demo thinking holy shit epic... got the game and realised it was totally different. still awsome! but when playing the demo you get the same game up to one point but in a different order! its incredibly clever and the dreaters dont cease to amaze me! you can add custom batman skins and if you download the game illegally (like we all do from time to time) the grapple gun freezes in midair!. another great thing about the game is scarecrow (hes more awsome than in the movies and comics x2!) you dight him in a completely different game mode! it reminds me of mario because its 3d but its like 2d its that awsome :D. on the final scarecrow battle [SPOILER].......... the game crashed (on purpose) or atleast fakes it and it restartes the ipening title sequence but your the...wait for it..... THE JOKER! thats right ps3 isnt joker exclusice... or is it? yes sadly it is but when it pretended to crash my ps3 friend restarted his playstation multiple times thinking it was real haha. i just sat there crying and waiting for the blue screen of death while my xbox 3shity60 friend waited for the red ring of death.
so i dont know if you can comment on blog spot but if you can then COMMENT!
