Josh comments on BioShock 2 Collectors' Edition

Yep you heard right, Bioshock 2 is just a month and a half away but there is more! 2 special edition packs have been announced (one for europe and the other for everyone!) by the fabulous people at 2K. The Europe one is slightly cheaper but contains less. Its contents include a special container, a hard back art book and of course the game. The one for all of yous, however, cotains not only that but also a better container (strength-wise), the soundtrack from both games and 3 propaganda rapture posters.

I can't think of anything wrong with this except one... WHERE THE HELL IS THE AWESOME MINIATURE STATUE OF THE BIG DADDY!!!!! I know we got one with the last one but i think it would have been awesome to have the protagonist's (subject Delta) statue so you can get a good look of him. Maybe they'll do it with the movie, but thats a whole year away and blood-thirsty, big daddy loving maniacs (not in the innapropriate way) will refuse to wait that long.

However, i love the idea of propaganda posters because when you stick them up on your wall, its as if rapture has conveniently come to you instead of you having to crash your plane somewhere in the middle of the atlantic ocean.

Other special goodies from 2K have been given out to some lucky people as well. For example, a record from a store in rapture called (you guessed it) rapture records. It plays the opening opera theme tune on it and somewhere in the middle, the noise dies down and you hear a little sister calling for her "daddy." Creepy huh? And if you preorder online on gamestop, you will get two extra characters on the multiplayer.

Until my next review which will be posted whenever the hell I feel like it, farewell.

Issac is about to kick some ass.

Yes. That is infact, Issac Clark. The helpless engineer from Dead Space. And yes, he is floating in the air. And yes, he does look a lot more badass.

I was reading Kotaku's comments section. It looked like a 50/50 split of opinions towards Viceral Game's new look for their hero. Some said it was taking a more action orientation, and some said it just looked like a more kick ass suit.

The reason- the Kotakuites pointed out- for his more agile look, is due to the jetpacks that are apparently attached to Issac this time around. You NEED to be streamlined to manouver around, no?

Another reason I brought up was the fact he is an engineer. He can modify his suit how ever he likes. So of course he is going to make a little bit more kick ass and suitable to take on the threat at hand.

DEAD SPACE 2 ARRIVES IN 2010.

whatever is chasing you. Canabalt is a very simple, but hugely addictive and atmospheric game.

9: HOT AIR 2 - Casual game developers Nitrome make some lovely games, and Hot Air 2 is one of their best. Guide your hot air balloon through spikes, traps and even bosses over 30 brilliant levels. Best of all, it has a great difficulty curve, with some very tricky levels later on.

7: MADNESS INTERACTIVE - A fighting game based on the hugely popular madness series, this is a
classic game. Stab, punch and blast your way through the streets. With loads of weapons and your own
customizable character, this is an enjoyable side-scrolling romp.

6: BLOONS - By Ninja Kiwi, bloons is based on the simple idea that popping balloons is fun.
This game spawned a massive series of very popular games, but play the original for some
simple, fun but very difficult bloon popping. Why is your in-game character a monkey? Nobody knows.

5: SHIFT - This is a funny, clever puzzle game by Armor Games. It has become an interesting,
complex series, with 2 more Shift Games made. The basic concept is that you are a man in a black and white world. To reach the door, you must shift be
tween being white on a black background, or black on a white background. With delightful humour that will hint at Portal for many, this is an excellent game.

4:FANCY PANTS ADVENTURES - By developer Brad
Bourne, Fancy Pants is one of the best casual platform games on the web. With hints towards both Mario and Sonic games, Fancy Pants is
a brilliant 2-D game. You play as a stick man with, of course, fancy pants and you traverse some
lovely hand - drawn worlds. Pl

The game is constantly updated, and is at V.6.8 at the time of writing.

1: GAMMA BROS. - What makes this game great is its brilliant charm and character. A 2-D retro shooter, Gamma Bros. is

Lime's Top Ten Games

It looks like Cohen did a general top ten, so here is mine. Maybe the others will add their own at some point.

Ten:

Pokemon Fire Red/ Leaf Green.

I spent hours upon hours of my own time playing this game. I even levelled up my perfect party and went on to beat quite a few people in head to head matches. It was the original, (and best), Pokemon remade to an almost perfect adventure. Oh how I almost failed my exams because of this.
Nine:

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Seeing this game on the 8th of December, 2006 was one of the greatest moments of my life so far. And waking up early on Saturday to play it, and then spending the Sunday a few weeks after getting to a snag of being stuck in my bedroom waggling a white remote around. (Smut here.) Best of all was beating several bosses with my friend, while he read a walkthrough and I swung an imaginary sword. It also has the most kickass art to date.

Eight:

Bioshock.

'Nuff said.

Seven:

Super Mario and the Six Golden Coins.

My first Mario game is still one of my favourites. It used more or less the Super Mario World controls and techniques and introduced the humourous Wario. But back then he was a mean guy, who stole Mario's castle. The Rabbit suit was just pure awesome and I can still remember my way around the cog work section and how to access the secret levels. (Rabbit suit up to a black area.) I'm going to find it right now and beat those blasted 3 pigs and Tangeta- he made a cameo apperance in the moon level.

Six:

Guitar Hero 3:

My first rhythm game, my first GH, and my first 100%. Guitar Hero 3 is a pretty enjoyable expirence due to it's rather awesome soundtrack and animated cutscenes. Also the guitar battles were rather enjoyable in a frustrating way. NEEEEEEWOWOWOWOWOW!

Five:

Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare.

Review explains it, I really can't elaborate anymore.

Four:

Pokemon Colosseum.

This is the way Pokemon should have gone. Dark, brooding and nabbing other people's Pokemon. Playing an estranged villian returning for revenge with two level 25 Pokemon to start and a kick ass arm piece, with pretty neat settings and graphics for the time, I enjoyed my time so much with this game I finished it twice for friends to unlock the ability to transfer Pokemon over. I can also recall a huge battle-thon on a perculiar day during a school break in which I had 5 friends test their skills against each other and I with those old GBA to Cube cables. Oh I miss that game.

Three:

Donkey Kong Jungle Beat.

Bongos, an ape with a tie and some really enjoyable scenerios. This game had me up till late at night banging away trying to beat an elephant tank with pineapples and not to lose one single ounce of health to gain that last gold medal. Although the last lot of missions were hard, and had me fuming, it was still the most fun I've had with the big lug, and that final boss... One word: Epic.

Two:

Super Mario Sunshine.

My favourite Mario game to date. Stuff what people have said, it is awesome. Mixes up the stale Mario 64 formula, with a water powered jetpack and some intresting scenerios. Maybe I will review it in the future.

One:

Super Smash Brothers: Melee.

Best. Beat 'em up ever. Mario vs. Bowser,
DK vs Samus and some of the best dialogue from Captain Falcon to date. The fact that it was so simple, and even a novice could finish the campaign on the same evening he aquired it with Kirby and go onto to perfect his skills against friends and family, says alot about this fighting game. Set in locations fimiliar to Nintendo fans and characters only they can find any interest in, it was like I had found my safe haven.

PC- Torchlight Review

Torchlight- created by Runic Games- is like the bastard child of World of Warcraft’s style and Diablo’s action-RPG gameplay. As you probably tell; it sounds pretty good already. The thing that makes this more of an enjoyable dungeon crawling-loot-collecting romp is the fact that the guys that worked and slaved away at Blizzard’s cult RPG put their uses towards this new adventure and it doesn’t disappoint.
The story may not be grade A stuff, and could have been a lot thicker, suits its need. It directs you towards the next place to clear out of goblins and zombies. The plot consists of an ex-master betraying the apprentice and the character is caught up in the mess. Something about ember, the equivalent to say, coal, corrupting people and an evil master. It’s pretty generic and doesn’t set out to draw you into the world. The characters that litter the town of Torchlight are- again stupidly generic- quest giving and merchant NPCs. Alas that is all you are here for and Runic delivers.
The whole system has had a manicure and is much more fluid than Diablo. For those that don’t know what I’m on about here is a quick rundown of the little solution they have added:
In Diablo, you would collect an excessive amount of loot. You would then have to find a waypoint or use a town portal scroll to exit the area and return back to town to sell off whatever you might have discovered. This was a little bit of a pain- not a great one, but still. Now with the additions of the pet- either a dog or cat- and dungeon merchants, you can sell the loot at any point in time without having to waste those precious town portal scrolls. Torchlight as I see it is Diablo’s cousin with common sense.
The combat and gameplay hasn’t really changed much since 2000. Run around, kill everything in sight, loot and repeat. Sounds boring don’t it? Not so. You’ll find yourself in epic battles against hordes of dragons and spiders, clusters of trolls and zombies and then a boss fight every five or so floors to mix things up a bit. The choice of characters you can take the role of ranges from the Destroyer, a melee focused attacker, The Vanquisher, a ranged expert who can use the many guns and crossbows that litter the areas or the Alchemist, the magician. To expert players of Diablo from the past, you will find this adventure incredibly easy on a normal difficulty. But to those that enjoy a challenge you have the option of hardcore mode to go along with those more difficult selections. Hardcore mode involves a permanent death and increasingly tough enemies. Death in this game isn’t a huge worry, as you have 3 options. Spawn at that place but lose experience and fame, spawn at the start of the floor, but lose gold, or spawn in Torchlight Town. These selections make the game easier on new comers but more like a guilty choice for avid fans of this acquired taste. The dog and cat add even more help. As well as them being equipped with their own pack for items, they can learn spells and wear rings and necklaces to improve on their abilities. Oh and they cannot die; they flee to a corner and regain health there. You can also catch fish to either sell or transform your pet into a killing machine from the opposite faction. I also feel that the Destroyer- much like the Barbarian- is the way to go. The Vanquisher seems sluggish and the Alchemist is for those with patience and expertise in that sort of magic skills. The Destroyer runs in and slaughters all with his mighty melee attacks. I found it to be most enjoyable, but it really is up to the player’s choice as to which way he or she wants to go forth and adventure.
The graphics have the same effect as World of Warcraft- they will never age entirely. With the cartoony effect, it has an advantage over a more realistic looking game- like Uncharted. As a more realistic game ages, more and more improvements arrive on the scene making it look old and outdated. Battlefield is a prime example. But with World of Warcraft and Torchlight, the exaggerated looks and vivid colours will make it look perfectly fine in five or ten years in the future. (WoW in fact has proved this as it turned five the other week.) The particle effects and characters look fun, menacing and overall a joy to look at. Even on a lower setting of graphics etc, it looks near enough identical. Just a little less sharp.
Overall, the game is a lot of fun and levelling up and adding new skills to your character is still as much fun as it can be. It’s an acquired taste and if you don’t like seeing numbers, and continually searching for new armour and trekking through dungeon after dungeon, you won’t much fun here. The game still needed a stronger story line than what it has, but it isn’t bothersome. It was really enjoyable and with the short main quest leaving much more time to have with the deep side-quests and secret dungeons, I think you and I will be playing for a long time.
